 The Walk:

A fine walk on a clear day (can be quite exposed in places).

Now begin your walk by following the rough green track up to Gutter Tor, good views from the top of the Tor looking south towards the sea and Plymouth. Walk left around the Tor and down the hill and join a rough track, which you now follow to Ditsworthy Warren, also used now for training purposes by the Military.

From the track you can see away to Legis Tor on your right and Trowlesworthy Tor to your left and the China Clay works in the middle. The Plym can just be seen away to your left. Follow the path behind the house and note the enclosure on your right; this was once a dog pound for the Warren.

Continue to follow the track as it goes Northeast, the Plym is now below on your right. As you walk along the track you will soon see the standing stones or ‘Menhir. Cross the Thrushelcombe brook and follow the green path to wards the first Menhir. There are three standing stones and each has its stone row and each has a burial cairn The south-east Menhir is the tallest standing stone on the Moor, it is 4m high its shape is completely natural.

Now walk towards the Giants Basin, it is a huge burial barrow. On the hill above are remains of the huts and away to your left a kistvaen can be found. To continue this walk, head straight up towards Higher Hart Tor and then head for the track at Eylesbarrow another Mine complex.

On the summit of Eylesbarrow are two more burial cairns. Take care here if you want to explore, as there are still some mine shafts.

To return to your car walk along the track and you will gradually see the trees that surround the centre. Cross the leat, which takes the water to Sheepstor and you have completed this walk.
